Western Star’s Serious Truck of the Month Award for December goes to Emerald Carrying Co, which specializes in transporting general freight as well petroleum products on behalf of blue-chip clients like BP, Shell and Caltex.
Managing Director Greg Haylock is ecstatic to have his Western Star 6964FXC awarded with the prestigious prize: “It’s extremely rewarding to be acknowledged with the Award. We are very proud of the recognition as it is a testament for all the hard work we’ve put into the truck.”
The impressive vehicle is part of a large-scale fleet and was purchased from John Healy at Hi-WAY1 Truck & Tractor Gympie this year. Greg has been dealing with John for the past two years, with Greg appreciating his product knowledge and honesty. “He knows the product, he backs the product, and he’s a good bloke,” Greg says.
Emerald’s 6964FXC sole purpose is to pull B-triple road train tankers from Townsville to Mt Isa, with two return trips every five days for maximum efficiency.
Greg’s Award-winning Star is powered by a Cummins E5 engine rated at 600hp and 2050lb/ft of torque. It is connected to an 18-speed Roadranger RTLO20918B transmission and rolls on Dana D52-190 diffs 4.56 Ratio on Neway AD-252 air suspension. It’s fitted with 3/8 double rails, alloy wheels and super singles tyres, and boasts a 1,800-litre fuel tank. Accommodation is a 54” Stratoshephere.
The December truck will feature amongst the other monthly award winners in the 2016 Western Star calendar and is also in the running for the 2014 ‘Serious Truck of the Year’ title.
